Dental Crowns in Miami

A dental crown is a custom-made cap that covers the entire visible portion of a tooth, restoring its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Whether you need a crown to protect a damaged tooth, complete a dental implant, or improve a tooth’s aesthetics, Smile Dental Center Miami provides high-quality porcelain, zirconia, and ceramic crowns that look and feel like natural teeth.

Our Miami cosmetic dentists use digital impressions and advanced materials to create crowns that blend seamlessly with your surrounding teeth in color, shape, and translucency.

When Do You Need a Dental Crown in Miami?

  • Severely decayed tooth — when a filling is not sufficient to restore strength
  • Cracked or fractured tooth — to prevent the crack from spreading and protect the root
  • After a root canal — to protect and seal the treated tooth
  • Dental implant restoration — the crown is placed on top of the implant post
  • Severely worn teeth — from grinding or acid erosion
  • Cosmetic improvement — when a tooth is misshapen, discolored, or too small for veneers alone

Types of Dental Crowns at Smile Dental Center Miami

All-Ceramic and Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain and all-ceramic crowns offer the most natural appearance and are ideal for front teeth. They mimic the translucency of natural enamel and can be shaded to match neighboring teeth precisely. They are metal-free, making them suitable for patients with metal sensitivities.

Zirconia Crowns

Zirconia is an extremely strong ceramic material used for both front and back teeth. Zirconia crowns combine the strength of metal with the aesthetics of porcelain. They are our most recommended material for patients who need durability without sacrificing appearance.

Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM) Crowns

PFM crowns have a metal substructure with a porcelain exterior. They are very durable but may show a gray line at the gum margin as gums recede over time. We recommend all-ceramic or zirconia options for visible teeth for aesthetic reasons.

Dental Crown Cost in Miami

Crown Type Cost Per Crown Lifespan
All-ceramic / porcelain $1,200 to $1,800 10 to 15 years
Zirconia $1,300 to $2,000 15 to 25 years
Porcelain-fused-to-metal $1,000 to $1,500 10 to 15 years

Dental insurance may cover part of the cost of a crown when it is placed for restorative reasons (after root canal, for decay, fracture). Purely cosmetic crowns are typically not covered. We accept CareCredit and offer payment plans. See our dental financing page.

The Crown Placement Process at Smile Dental Center Miami

Appointment 1: Preparation and Temporary Crown (60 to 90 min)

The tooth is shaped to accommodate the crown. Digital impressions are taken and sent to our lab. A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth while the permanent crown is fabricated (typically 1 to 2 weeks).

Appointment 2: Permanent Crown Placement (30 to 45 min)

The temporary crown is removed, the permanent crown is tested for fit and shade, adjusted as needed, and cemented in place. You leave with a fully restored tooth.

Frequently Asked Questions — Dental Crowns Miami

How long do dental crowns last in Miami?

Zirconia and porcelain crowns last 10 to 25 years with proper care. The main factors affecting longevity are oral hygiene, bite forces, and whether a night guard is used by patients who grind. Most crown failures involve either decay at the margin or fracture from excessive force rather than material failure.

Is getting a dental crown painful?

Crown preparation is performed under local anesthesia, making the procedure painless during treatment. After the anesthesia wears off, mild soreness is normal for 1 to 3 days. The tooth may be sensitive to temperature until the permanent crown is placed. Sensitivity resolves completely once the permanent crown is cemented.

Can a crown be placed in one day?

Some clinics offer same-day CEREC crowns milled in-office. At Smile Dental Center Miami, we use premium lab-fabricated crowns for superior fit and aesthetics, which requires 1 to 2 weeks of lab time. We provide a comfortable temporary crown during this period.

Does insurance cover dental crowns in Miami?

Most dental insurance plans cover 50% of crown costs when placed for restorative reasons after reaching the deductible, up to the annual maximum. Cosmetic crowns placed solely for appearance are typically not covered. We recommend verifying your benefits before treatment and will assist with insurance documentation.

What is the difference between a crown and a cap?

Crown and cap are two terms for the exact same dental restoration. A dental crown (or cap) covers the entire visible portion of the tooth above the gum line. The term “cap” was more commonly used decades ago, while “crown” is the current clinical term used by dentists worldwide.
